Hiya,

More notes!

We'd like not to bring the foundry inside while it's still hot; after two
hours (and a li'l nap) the interior was still hot to the touch. Discussed
briefly with Phil who very graciously agreed to put the foundry in its
cubby later in the evening. Phil suggested that the foundry would be safe
to store inside at 100 degrees, we talked about obtaining a pyrometer to
test--Phil offered to bring this up at the weekly sshc meeting.

We accidentally burned through the bottom of that black tub, the plastic
melted. It cost $5 at Home Despot so not a big deal--I don't think the
metal went through obviously but the sand was maybe too thin. Also the
second tub which contained the lid warped a bit. More sand, maybe larger
bins.

Yes to some sort of official ruleset, or something toward a certification
workflow. I think there are two roles: the melter/pourer and the person
responsible for the foundry, what do you think? We can do more than one
pour in a day, maybe it takes a number of pours to become eligible to
operate the foundry, which has the benefit of being able to operate alone,
lead a new group, etc. What do you think, Brady?

Yes to doing this again, maybe in two weeks?

Let's do a sand casting next time, I have in mind to do this
http://www.backyardmetalcasting.com/alumflasks01.html .

Sand casting is kind-of messy and requires water; if the space is crowded
like last Saturday then there's really not enough room. Do we have a
portable folding table or some such? If so we could move to the hall close
to the loading dock. IMO that's kind-of better, even, because it's easier
to clean up an empty space. I think we can recondition the sand with water
in a bathroom, e.g. that weird spraybooth on the first floor?

Andrew I accidentally stole your shiv/multi-tool, will return to you ASAP.
