Whilst many in this dist list are pretty sophisticated about using crypto the point is that many of the people we communicate with in our daily lives are not. Hushmail is included in this list which I know many folks pooh pooh. But there are other tools that seem to be pretty popular including Proton. Not having personally used to examined these I can't vouch if they're open source or not.
